Yep. This should be made into a movie! Twilight has nothing this kind of vicious sexiness, and I want to see the bears fighting, and Erik and his lioness and whatever der Fuchs really is all piled together in a hotel room bed, and so much more... Great writing and very visual. Biting and rough sex that totally got me going. This is the sort of weird sexy story that I never expected to exist and enjoyed thoroughly!
"The Lioness" centres around two shapeshifters, Heather, the titular character (the lioness) and Erik, who has abilities to shift into a bear. Amongst their interactions, they go back and forth, in the most sultry of ways, to figure out a relationship that will feed them in the ways they need to be fed. In one scene, Erik and Heather are going at it hard. Erik starts to get in touch with his wild side with Heather while she retracts her claws to fingers. From there, it intensifies.
Their animalistic nature (from their origins) as well as their humanistic side prove them to both be relatable yet tender characters. Neither wants to get hurt but, as relationships are wont to do, they can't help the inevitable. The inclusion of Helene to their growling, snarling playtime is a delight, as it feeds the deepening relationship. "The flame", she is called (after her red hair) provides another tipping point in the story. "Helene was filled with their eager lust to the point of bursting, but everything Erik and Heather did was done to make her feel comfortable and loved." The way it should be.
There is a tenderness to it all. The two females serve as Erik's nursemaids when he is in need. When it turns to a more carnal care that needs to be delivered, you can almost see the activities unfolding in front of you. Heather and Helene, while Erik nods in approval, is a scene not to be missed. Let it take you to where you need to be, because you know it wants to take you there (especially Heather).
"The Lioness" is definitely not for the faint of heart. It's meant to unleash something in you that you didn't want unleashed (or, perhaps, were afraid to unleash). Its vivid descriptions of the encounters are so charged with energy, you can't help but see them unfold between the Lioness, the Bear and (at times) the Flame.
What the author, Max, does to describe to pair as animals is beyond that. They are animals, but they are more, especially when they are together. Their strength lies in every aspect of their deeply complex relationship.

It’s raw, it’s gritty, and it’s a book you won’t easily forget. I’m talking about “The Lioness” (the complete four part series) by Max, at Cherish Desire Divinations. Max’s Shapeshifters are feral, primal; they evoke a lusty desire in the reader, but they provoke fear as well. Would you really want a coupling with these beasts, knowing that they can, and probably will, sink their teeth into your throat; disembowel you with their ripping claws?
Long, long ago, I used to read a lot of Shapeshifter erotica; I found a connection in a world of monsters; the type of monsters that you fall in love with. The monsters that had shaped my fantasies throughout my life. Dark, dark, night time fantasies. Wolves, beasts with passionate beating hearts; creatures that seduce, before they destroy. Sometimes, if you’re lucky they will make you one of their own.
I don’t know why, but I drifted away from those lovely, haunting, Shapeshifters; somewhere, somehow, they had lost their allure. I think I actually, became a little bit bored. I tried to understand why; the pace was right, the lyrical placing of words was right, the prose couldn’t be faulted. So I thought about it some more. The conclusion that I came to, was that Shapeshifter erotica no longer seem convincing to me; and before everyone starts yelling, “suspend your disbelief,” I did, I really, really did. Even with a writer as well established in the genre, such as Laurel K. Hamilton; there was a huge part of me that wanted so much to believe, and following that belief, to be aroused, we are, after all talking about erotica. I came to the conclusion that Laurel really didn’t believe either, or maybe she too was getting a little bit bored, and that was coming over to me, as a reader. If the writer isn’t convinced, then the poor reader doesn’t stand a chance.
So, thank goodness Twitter introduced me to Max, at Cherish Desire. I began with “The Lioness” and immediately, I was hooked. I read the 4 part series in a night and half a day; I was a part of the world of Erik, Heather and Helene. Passionate Shapeshifters that celebrate their difference, through sex, love and danger. There is heart racing action here, I felt as I used to feel; aroused, allured, their glamor overwhelming me. Max’s Shapeshifters made me feel alive.
When Erik is hunted by the Bears, there are heartbreaking, ripping scenes of cruelty. The sort of cruelty that makes you want to give up; you cannot take anymore. Max writes with a pace that is relentless and I surrender as Erik tastes sight, scents and sounds as the hunters close in on him; is this for real? Surely not; it cannot be. I don’t know how Max does it, but I feel what Erik must be feeling. I taste blood, cloying, sticky, metallic in my mouth; and still, I keep reading.
And of course, there is sex here; very, very hot sex. Sex between Erik and Helene; sex between Erik and Heather. Sex with all three. Sex that tips on annihilation with biting teeth and claws to rip the flesh. Sex that jolts and crashes through every nerve of my body with Max’s beautiful, stunning poetic prose. The perfect word, following the perfect word…now that’s a writer.
Max is a writer with an intuitive sense of what will stoke up the fires and turn on his reader. He knows how to enthrall his reader; how to keep his reader turning the pages.
Read “The Lioness” by Max; read everything by Max and join me in my quivering yearning, as we anticipate where Max will take us next.
I’ve not been feeling well today. I came home early from work, needing to find a way to clear my head and relax. Easy, I thought. A hot bath with essential oils and a book to keep me company. My safely sealed from water in a zip top bag, I settle in, hesitating a little from the warmth of the water. I pull up the next book in my queue. My head clears and I can breathe for the first time today.
Then, it doesn’t matter. I’m entranced in a world that I want to join. The Lioness has the power, innate and confident, that I’ve always wanted. She finds a lover who respects her for it, and even wants her for her power and strength. That’s new. Wonderful, even. I read, lost in words, not feeling the water grow cold until a shiver crosses over me. I don’t want to leave that world, so I drain half the water from the tub, and fill it up again with the hottest water the tap can send my way, reading of another’s control over heat. The tendrils of warmth spread over me, banishing the chill. Unable to tear my mind away from the undeniable connection between Erik and Heather, the water grew colder yet again. Still, I didn’t even notice, until the end of those precious parts of their story that shared with the world in this book.
